Bird Diversity

The Amazon region is home to greatest bird diversity in the world, and as this map indicates, the peak Amazonian diversity lies in a band along the Amazon-Andes interface. Over 560 bird species have been recorded within Yasuni National Park, one of the highest known totals in the world. The Park is an important refuge for the Vulnerable Wattled Curassow and the Near Threatened Harpy Eagle, one of the most powerful birds in the world.
