The Senate divides its lawmaking tasks into several committees. Each committee is assigned the responsibility to review any legislation that is under its jurisdiction. When a new bill is proposed or an existing regulation is being revised or clarified, the issue is brought up under its committee. Forest issues in the Senate generally fall under the Energy and Natural Resources committee, the Agriculture committee, or Environment and Public Works committee. Each of these committees have a broad range of subjects, so to further clarify committee responsibilities, committees are broken down into sub-committees.
