SLIDE 9

This road network would greatly add to the oil-related impacts on the Yasuni region. The Auca Road (built in the early 1980s) has triggered massive deforestation to the west of Yasuni National Park, and includes a spur road used by the Canadian oil company Encana to extract oil in the northwest section of the park. The Maxus Road (built in the early 1990s) has also triggered significant levels of deforestation. In 2000, Occidental Petroleum (Oxy) built a road into the buffer zone of the park.
