ECUADOR INDIANS DENY KIDNAPPING THREAT

 

Ecuador: Indians deny kidnapping threat

Organizers of an indigenous people's march on the Ecuadorian capital deny reports the Huaorani Indians threatened to kidnap oil workers.
      Ecuadorian news sources reported the Huaorani Indians threatened to occupy oil fields and kidnap employees of Brazilian state-owned company Petrobras during a protest against plans to drill for oil in the Amazon forest.
      "This is not true," Brian Keane, an organizer of the Huaorani march on Quito, told United Press International Thursday. "They did not threaten kidnappings."
      Hundreds of Huaorani Indians marched on Quito dressed in their traditional garb decorated with feathers and carrying spears, El Comercio newspaper reported online.
      The Indians accuse companies like Petrobras of exploiting and destroying the Amazon while surveying for and extracting precious natural resources.
      Indigenous leaders said they want the Ecuadorian government to commit to exploring alternative forms of energy.

Ecuador: Los indios niegan el secuestrar de amenaza

Los organizadores del marzo de una gente indígena en el capital de Ecuador niegan a informes los indios de Huaorani amenazados para secuestrar a trabajadores del petróleo.

Las fuentes de las noticias de Ecuador divulgaron a indios de Huaorani amenazados para ocupar yacimientos de petróleo y para secuestrar a empleados de la compañía propiedad del gobierno brasileña Petrobras durante una protesta contra planes para perforar para el petróleo en la selva de Amazon.

"Esto no es verdad," Brian Keane, un organizador de la marcha de Huaorani en Quito, dicho Prensa Unida Internacional el jueves. "No amenazaron secuestros."

Los centenares de los indios de Huaorani marcharon en Quito vestidos en su ropa tradicional adornada con las plumas y las lanzas que llevaban, periódico del El Comercio divulgaron en la web.

Los indios acusan las compañías como Petrobras de explotar y de destruir el Amazon mientras que examinan para y extraen recursos naturales preciosos.

Los líderes indígenas dijeron quisieran que el gobierno de Ecuador confiara a explorar formas alternativas de energía.
